We start our journey in "El Bierzo" a region located in the northwest of Spain, land of winemaking. The variety "Mencía" is the native grape of this region.

GOTIN is the popular and age-old way of calling a small glass of wine in El Bierzo (and some bordering regions such as Leon and Asturias). It used to be associated to young wines that were fresh, fruity and made with a mix of grapes. These wines were elaborated for home consumption and they usually were very complex due to an organic treatment of the land.

RISC was a man born in Cacabelos, a small town in El Bierzo. He was a vine grower and also a winemaker, a great businessperson and better wine consumer. He loved Mencía and, without great sophistication, he understood winemaking and wine consumption the same way his ancestors did.

Therefore, we wanted to use these concepts and our understanding about them to create this WINE project. We have tried every moment to make a wine with history. Our American friend visited our facilities during the winemaking process. We put together his thoughts and our understanding of El Bierzo and together we have adapted this ideas into an modern wine typology, always keeping in mind the three main concepts.

  CONCEPTS

El Bierzo

Region in the north-western area of Spain. It is part of the province of Leon, but with a very differentiated microclimate, which is perfect for vine growing.

The Tradition

Wine making has been inherited from one generation to another. It is present in the daily life of every "Berciano" (native from El Bierzo)

The People

This tradition has created, within winemakers, a very special understanding of the wine making process, where "Mencia", the indigenous grape variety, is the "Queen".
